Amintas is a Brazilian environmental engineer with a Master’s degree in Environmental Modeling from Clark University and a Ph.D. in Environment and Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Brandão Jr. has over two decades of experience in the field of land change science. From 2003 to 2016, he led research initiatives at Imazon, applying geotechnologies to monitor land use and deforestation. Since 2016, he has been leading studies on cattle supply chains in the Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado biomes in collaboration with Dr. Gibbs. Amintas has published dozens of influential papers and reports on deforestation and conservation in the Amazon, with many others in preparation. He is a dedicated scientist and a passionate advocate for science-based conservation in Brazil. His main areas of interest are traceability, land change modeling, greenhouse gas emissions, and geospatial data science.
